A little perspective

As I am getting ready for our big trip, a little over a week away, I am reminded just how well we live our lives. I am not much of a bible thumper and I cannot remember the last time I set foot into a church without it being Christmas Eve, a wedding, or a funeral. My sister Tee and her husband Brian, who goes by Bullet, are very religious. Bullet is currently on a mission trip in Africa. Yesterday, I received a postcard from R.E.D. Ministries, which is the organization that he is traveling with through Africa. It brought a little perspective into my life when I brought up their website tonight and read their blog entry.

The entry really moved me as I read about their encounter with young survivors of the current tribal genocide. I get so caught up in our daily lives that I forget to consider the rest of the world. I am not trying to get preachy. I guess I am just emotional to know that something I have provided some small financial support to is really out there making a real difference. When we gave money, I only considered how much their travel and supplies would cost. I wanted to aid them with that. After reading about their travels so far, I am really proud of my brother in law and all they are doing in Africa.

Overheard in the bookstore:
Today we had the mouse from If You Give A Mouse A Cookie join us for storytime. Mouse did not have the hat inside its head, so it would just flop around. We were terrified that Mouse would be decapitated in front of 20 preschoolers. It was a bit stressful, but my favorite line was this:
It's okay, shuffle your feet, I have your head.
